He got to the platform, stood up to the fleet admiral himself, unlocked his chains, and set him free. No one else was able to do that. That should have some effect on his rep in the new world. Ace was a moron, thats why he is dead. Luffy, this barely having a name rookie who hadnt even REACHED the new world yet, did something whitebeard himself couldnt manage.

That is to lead Ace to Raftel and let him initiate the Project One Piece which Roger failed to do so. That's why he had to go all the way as to declare war on the Marine just to bring Ace back but little did he know it's Luffy the grandson of Roger's sworn rival Garp who will continue on the legacy of the Pirate King. I just love the irony of this series.
