Was it merely a coincidence that Jefferson and Adams both died on July 4th 1826, 50 years to the day after they both signed the Declaration of Independence? Or was it yet another sign of Providence that this Nation is an exceptional Nation, a Nation created not by accident, but instead with the hand of Providence guiding us along the way.
I learned of this long ago in my studies about our founders. I always found it fascinating how two of the most well known signers of the Declaration of Independence died on the same day, the 4th of July. They were not only signers of the Declaration; they were our second and third Presidents. Not only that, but Adams was the first Vice President and Jefferson was the Second Vice President.
They also had a letter correspondence that went on for decades after they both retired from active politics. They debated issues and discussed current events of the nation, the nation that they both took part in creating. And if I recall correctly, they often wondered who would outlive the other. The answer to that is of course Adams, but only by a few hours. I think that it's fitting that they both died on the 50th anniversary of our great Republic.
