The Second Amendment is not about hunting; it is a political right. Historic context of the Amendment makes it very clear as to why some thought it necessary to write it into our federal constitution; they wanted it protected, and for good reason.
When the British Empire made its first attempt at quelling our first outburst of liberty, they failed. Why did they fail? It was because we were armed, and may I say, unlike any other people in the world at the time. The British did not expect us to be so uppity and free spirited.
And because of us being armed, we finally, through great difficulty and much dedication of our leaders and patriotic soldiers, gained our independence. So that is why the Second Amendment was added to our constitution; that we would always remain a free people beholden to no government for our God given liberties.
